I have seen many kannadigas on other newspaper tarnishing man of his credibility for political reason. Some of false charge were looted money on Adhar project and Adhar was flop, and another MMS, UAD for bangadesh, puppet, good man at wrong party blah blah..Hypocrite and double standard BJP workers are always indulge in spoiling non-bjp leader reputation and credibility with one or other reason, lie and false accusation with illogical, immature argument and make they carried away this time. Unless we educate these ignorant, they will never stop spreading lie on social network and news site. Correct me if I am wrong. What I though about him is 1. experience, well educated and successful 2. Clean image with no corrupt charge or criminal history 3. Give up $10-20million per year worth job at infosys for serving nation. 4. Spent over 800crores so far from own pocket for many philanthropy works for poor, and rural people (arghyam . org - site is for water projects, spent about 50crore) 5. Chairman of UID project, world first massive identity project. 60crores people have already got their unique ID and expect to reach 70-80croes by may2014. 6. Honest, sincere and not involved in any dirty politics 7. Have over 30 years experience in managing successful company (Businessman of the Year by Forbes Asia). 8. His work and background suggest he was never show off, faked or discriminated or biased with people from different region or caste or state. His book Imagining India: The Idea of a Renewed Nation is the proof that care India and nation is first. he has made contribution to Bengaluru task force and dedicate for many project. 9. he is setting new trend in indian politics with positive campaign, interacting with people, understanding problem, sharing solution (website, facebook, twitter) for bengaluru ppl. Where are there 35-50% criminal, corrupt in every party, why so called educated ppl oppose him? it is JOKE! With lack of knowledge or over sight say dozen things about this project and Nandan nelekani but for me, UID is a new born baby and need at least 10 years to see the impact and usage of it. Most of our people don't know the importance of identity. There are half dozen Ids (PAN, election, ration card, green card, NPR,, card for public hospital) in India and we spend at least 5000-10000crores every year for issuing and maintaining each of cards. if we replace these card with one, we can save 10000s crores every year. This UID with direct cash can eliminate corruption at ground level. I have seen in villages where people have to pay bribe/commission to official for getting own pension people. Direct cash will eliminate middleman and all the government program help make sure reach people without hassle and wasting time. This will also save over lakh crores every year and avoid corruption at ground level. The centralized system would help for planning, managing and controlling any government projects in future. Most of projects failed because of lack of information and accurate statistics. it is major step in improving the way government function for social norms. Agree there were some mistakes, and possible that illegal immigrant might misuse, however UID is not proof for citizenship and accusation of illegal immigrant getting Indian citizen is wrong. Even US with hi-tech couldn't stop million illegal immigrant every year and impossible to expect 100% foolproof system..Some people also have concern over privacy. To be honest, there is no such thing, all government in world can tap your phone call, email and banks without your permission and also most bank that you share personal info are also subject to risk. Whatever the problem exist that can be fixed over a time and make most sophisticated UID in the world. There were minor hiccup but it's going smoothing and well on track. Instead of whinging about not getting card for 3 months, I suggest people make complaint or participate via voluntary work during break and weekend. If there are any problem find out the reason and make sure others do not get delayed because of same reason. About other 2 accusation, puppet and good man at wrong party. - It is judgmental and biased opinion. People who are jealousy, narrow-minded and do not have tolerance others opinion and personal choice make such statement. Didn't we all receive independence in this country? Why don't people respect other people choice? it is very hard to find man of such credential in Indian politics and I request kanandigas to have some pride for own people and don't tarnish people image for your pity politics! Having wrote another long story (which I think it was appropriate and necessary), I ask people if he is not right person for state and nation, please tell who else? As Arun jailtely argument, do we only deserve professional corrupt, criminal, cunning politician to be on top post"

Party or Candidate?

Party or Candidate?
This question continues to bother some of us who believe in independent thinking and hence are searching for our own answers.
One important point to consider is the widening chasm between the civil society and the political society. As long as we do not address this crack, the polity will remain disconnected, indifferent and apathetic to you and me.
Therefore, we need to encourage people who can bridge this gap between civil society and the political society. People who are like you and me. People who think like you and me. People who have worked in an environment like you and me. People who have known the problems of you and me.
Nandan has shown us through the Aadhar implementation across the country that whatever be the Government, whatever be the resistance, whatever be the challenge, he is not afraid to take it up head-on and has the ability to engage, discuss, sort out and convince everybody to support and implement his ideas. As we see from the country wide implementation of Aadhar – barring a couple of states showing low enrolment, the roll out has been very even across states, whichever party be ruling the Government and whatever be their initial apprehensions.
We need such a person to serve our constituency – and this is true to my other friends in other cities and other constituencies as well. One who can focus on our issues, one who appreciates our problems, and one who has the ability to take stakeholders along. One who can navigate through the maze of our complex polity – to reach out, to persuade and to convince the relevant agencies to serve us better – whichever government it may be and whatever manifesto they may follow.
So folks, let us not get swayed by the bigger political debate of party followership. As Robert F. Kennedy said, “Few will have the greatness to bend history, but each of us can work to change a small portion of events”. And that small portion ladies and gentlemen, can be your contribution to stand behind someone like you and me who has dared to take the leap. Let us make it happen – together with Nandan.  Mahesh Ramamurthy

What connects me to Nandan

What connects me to Nandan?

Krishna's advice to Arjuna

Karmanye Vadhikaraste, Ma phaleshou kada chana
- You have the right to perform your actions, but you are not entitled to the fruits of the actions.

Ma Karma Phala Hetur Bhurmatey Sangostva Akarmani
– Do not let the fruit be the purpose of your actions, and therefore you won’t be attached to not doing your duty.

Our Constitution requires us to elect one able person per constituency as our representative in the Lok Sabha. It is our duty to send the best person offering himself in the elections to the Parliament. If for whatever reasons we chose to send a person other than the best..evaluated on crietria such as honesty, sincerity, track record of effectiveness and commitment to social justice, then we will have singularly failed in our duty. Failed to heed Krishna's advice.

I will vote sincerely.

It took me hardly a second to accept an invite from my friend Prathap Menon to join CampaignForNandan group a few months back. But my support remained passive for a while - the typical dilemma of choosing between the man and the party. In 1977, I was a small school kid but a successful revolution of those times had left a very deep impression on my tender sensibilities – that was difficult to erase even years later with the benefit of a good cognitive intelligence.

In the last few days, I realized that passive support to a cause was indeed as bad as passive smoking. In a typical election, how much does a party affiliation mean to an individual’s campaign was the moot question. Having observed Nandan at work, it was a no-brainer to decide on the man, it was the party that posed a question mark. True to his style, he will not promise moon but will mitigate some of the miseries. I realized that my long years of support to my party did convert into a positive result every time but my constituency didn’t grow to what I would have liked it to. I, and perhaps many others like me, have just savoured the glory of putting our votes on a winning candidate and never ever weighed the return on our votes. As they say in cricket – a good batsman is one who puts a price on his wicket.

I am also aware that for my representative to do something good for my constituency, it is important that he aligns with one of the big parties. Staying independent might make a symbolic statement; it has limitations in terms of getting political, administrative or executive attention to my constituency. Many of us want to do something good but are bogged down with our own lives or simply do not have the courage to stand up. And here is a man, who has shunned the other softer options to get representation and is willing to get to the grassroots level. I knew, it was time to stand up and be counted when he needed my support.

One man cannot change our polity overnight but this is a small beginning and we have to make it succeed. We need 542 Nandan’s to clean up the system but we need to first welcome this bold beginning so that other Nandan’s also come forward. As I said, it may take time to clean up the whole system. But that should not stop us from sowing the saplings now so that our coming generation reaps the fruits. And I joined my other friends this morning – to actively work ‘Together with Nandan’.

Together With Nandan

TWN (Together with Nandan) I represent the Vijaynagar area for this group.

About Together With Nandan (TWN)

Together With Nandan is an apolitical group created by professionals who do not belong to any political party with the intention of supporting Nandan Nilekani in the forthcoming Lok Sabha Elections. Nandan is expected to stand on a Congress ticket from the Bengaluru South constituency.

This group believes that Indian politics needs strong, clean, capable leaders like Nandan Nilekani, with a proven track record of performance in the private and public sector, and believes in his vision for Bengaluru and India.

The group feels that the time has come for middle class people to play an active role in India's democratic process and by helping Nandan win this election they would have played a pivotal part in a historic election. Entering parliament should be an honour and the group feels there is no one more deserving of being an MP than Nandan Nilekani. His candidature cuts across party lines.

He has demonstrated his ability to work with people of all political parties in the powerful anti-corruption platform Aadhaar and he will be a change agent even as an opposition MP. He made a promise to the nation to ensure 60 crore Indians have a unique Identity in five years and he has been able to deliver on his promise.

The group also believes that Nandan's entry into electoral politics will be an inflection point in Indian political history and will inspire a whole new breed of clean effective capable people to enter politics over the next decade. Already hundreds of people are part of this group.
